My son knew a few words. He knew his name, even if he wrote it a little backwards sometimes. He knew frog. He knew how to spell TUMS, because dad got heartburn. He knew good guy and bad guy and hero and bus. He almost had enough words for a book all by himself, I thought.

That's when I realized: with their own words, kids are already ready to read books by themselves. And when they see themselves in the story, it's even better.

So I started making my son little custom books that used only the words he knew, with whatever pictures I could find.

Now I'm pleased to have the technology to bring this same process to you and your family. We hope you find it as fun and enriching as we do, and we can't wait to see what little hehe moments you come up with.
